If I try Botox^® or Dysport^®…is it something I have to keep up with?

No. While we’re pretty sure you’ll want to keep up with your treatments every 3-6 months, there is no harm in discontinuing. The end result is that you’ve delayed the progression of those lines and wrinkles for 3-6 months. You’ll return to your pre-Botox^® state when the toxin wears off.

What are the potential side effects of treatment?

Botox^®/ Dysport^® will weaken the muscles that cause the lines of expression - and that’s the intended side effect! Of course, there is a risk of bruising, bleeding and infection with anything injected under the skin. Bruising is the most common side effect, and if this happens, it typically goes away in 5-7 days. Right after injection, it is normal to have redness or swelling at the injection sites for up to 40-60 minutes. It is normal to feel warm, heavy or tingly right after treatment as well. Some patients get a slight headache after treatment, but overall, patients notice fewer headaches after they’ve had treatment. Is it safe?

Your injector will review the risks, contraindications and alternatives to treatment before proceeding with Botox^® injections. While there are inherently risks to any injectable, Botox^® is one of the most studied drugs on the market, and is used in much higher doses for medical treatment of a variety of conditions including chronic migraine, muscle contracture, bladder spasms and more. All of our injectors are trained extensively and employ a conservative approach to treatment.

What happens if I get the “surprised” or “spock” look after treatment?

Sometimes Botox^® treatments result in part of the forehead responding differently than the other areas, resulting in a surprised “spock” type look (we call this the mephisto phenomenon). It is easy and quick to fix! If this happens, simply schedule a follow-up and our injectors will correct this if possible. All MOBO providers are taught to be conservative in their treatment, as it is easier to touch-up a client than it is to fix an over-treatment.

How much does it cost?

Botox^® is sold by the unit, and the number of units each person needs can vary widely. In general, expect a cost of $100-200 per area for crows feet, between brows, and forehead. The Botox^® Lip Flip is fewer units and is only $75.

Who shouldn’t get Botox^® treatments?

You should not have wrinkle relaxer treatments if:

• You are pregnant or breastfeeding, or trying to become pregnant.
• You have a history of myasthenia gravis, eaton lambert syndrome, parkinson’s, Lou Ghertig’s disease or any other neuromuscular condition.
• You have prior facial trauma.
• You have an allergy to human albumin.
• You have an active infection in the area being treated.
• You have a prior allergic reaction to Botox^® injections.
• You have body dysmorphic disorder.

What is a Botox^® Lip Flip?

Some clients (not all) are a candidate for a treatment called a Lip Flip. A small amount of Botox^® or Dysport^® is used to prevent the upper lip from pursing, and also from turning in when a patient smiles. This helps with fine lines around the lip and also “shows” more of the lip. It is important to note that a lip flip does not add any volume to the lip (that would need to be lip filler). Similarly, Botox^® can also be used to drop a gummy smile / reduce gummy show.
