Laser Tattoo Removal Post Care

Laser tattoo removal is non-invasive treatment that is by far the most popular method to remove unwanted ink. Q-switched laser uses highly concentrated pulses of light to fracture pigment into small particles, allowing the body to safely eliminate the ink. MOBO Med Spa carries Spectrum’s Q-switch which has a unique design that employs dual wavelengths to eliminate more tattoo color pigments in less time than lasers that use a single wavelength. Laser tattoo removal is non-invasive.

You just had your laser tattoo removal... but now what? With the right post-care, you'll be saying good-bye to your unwanted ink.

Post Treatment Care for Laser Tattoo Removal

  • Discomfort: On completion of a tattoo removal treatment, patients may experience minor discomfort and redness. This discomfort will subside quickly.
  • Redness: Post tattoo removal with laser, redness will last for 24-48 hours. Once the redness is gone the treated area will look similar to the way it did prior to treatment. Pinpoint bleeding may also occur.
  • Skincare: Patients may wash the treated area as normal. It is recommended that the treated area be coved with an antibiotic ointment for 1-week. Always inform your provider of any allergies, specifically allergies to antibiotics or components of antibiotics. Immediately after, apply the antibiotic ointment and a light dressing. We prefer non-adherent dressing such as _____. This can be removed the following day at which time it is OK to wash over the area with soap and water. It can then be left open to the air or ointment and a light dressing can be applied again. Dressings are recommended if there is any bleeding from the area after the treatment.
  • Blistering: If there is any blistering after a laser treatment, leave the blister intact until it ruptures on its own. Then you should apply one of the above ointments and cover with a new dressing twice per day. Be sure to let us know if you had blistering with the last session before getting another treatment.

When to Schedule your Next Tattoo Removal Laser Treatment

  • How many treatments are needed? The amount of laser tattoo removal treatments needed can vary person to person. Multiple treatments may be required to achieve the desired result (up to 6-10 treatments).

  • When should my next treatment be? The body will absorb the broken up ink after the laser treatment and the area should be retreated every 9-weeks. Although it is recommended to be treated every 9 weeks, taking extra time off between laser tattoo removal treatments does not diminish the effectiveness of tattoo removal.
